CNC Metalworking Machine Operator – Turret Punch & Salvagnini Panel Bender
Position Summary:
Malach Metal & Machining is seeking an experienced CNC Metalworking Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team in Winnipeg.
The successful candidate will set up, operate and monitor automated CNC metalworking equipment used to cut, punch, bend and form sheet metal into finished parts and components.
This position works primarily with CNC turret punch and forming equipment, including Salvagnini punch and panel-bending systems, and may also operate other CNC metalworking equipment such as AMADA and BLM flat lasers.
The role requires the ability to read production specifications and engineering drawings, set up and adjust equipment, inspect completed components, troubleshoot operating issues and ensure parts are produced safely and accurately to required specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret job orders, engineering drawings, production specifications, work instructions and CAD data.
- Lay out, set up, adjust and operate CNC metalworking equipment used to cut, punch, bend, shear and form light sheet-metal components.
- Set up and operate CNC turret punch and panel-bending equipment, including Salvagnini punch, shear and panel-bending machines.
- Operate other CNC metalworking equipment as required, including AMADA flat lasers and BLM flat lasers.
- Select, load and adjust machine programs and operating parameters according to material type, thickness, tooling requirements and production specifications.
- Use specialized production and CNC programming software, including Salvagnini Stream Punch, Stream Bend, DB MAT and DBHT, as well as applicable laser CAM software such as ABE Planner, Production Designer, Blank CAM and Lantek.
- Determine appropriate tooling sequences, bend allowances, nesting programs and production requirements based on drawings and work-order specifications.
- Align, position and install punch tools, dies, blades, bending attachments and other required tooling.
- Adjust machine speed, pressure, tooling and other operating settings according to material and production requirements.
- Load, position and remove sheet-metal material and finished components safely throughout the production process.
- Measure and inspect completed parts to confirm correct dimensions, shapes, bend angles and other specifications.
- Use precision measuring equipment such as vernier calipers, measuring tapes and protractors to verify finished components.
- Identify machine errors, production issues, tooling problems and material deviations during processing.
- Troubleshoot equipment and process issues and perform appropriate corrective actions or minor adjustments within the scope of the position.
- Communicate with Engineering, Quality and Production personnel when technical or quality concerns require additional support.
- Obtain required quality assurance approval and ensure parts meet applicable production and customer specifications.
- Select, move and transport materials to and from the work area manually or using appropriate material-handling equipment, including forklifts, where authorized.
- Complete required production records and documentation accurately.
- Identify, label and transfer completed parts to the appropriate subsequent production operation.
- Perform routine operator-level preventive maintenance and equipment cleaning.
- Clean machine optics and nozzles, change punch tools, remove slag and scrap, and complete other routine equipment-care activities as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures, machine operating instructions and safe work practices.
Employment Requirements
- Completion of secondary school or equivalent.
- 1 year to less than 2 years of hands-on experience operating and setting up automated CNC metalworking equipment.
- Hands-on experience operating and setting up Salvagnini punch and panel-bending equipment.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, production specifications and work instructions.
- Experience setting up tooling and adjusting CNC machine parameters.
- Ability to inspect completed parts using precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to identify production or equipment issues and make routine adjustments or corrective actions.
- Ability to safely handle sheet-metal materials and manufactured components.

Work Environment:
This position is based in a manufacturing environment and requires regular interaction with CNC machinery, sheet-metal materials, tooling and material-handling equipment.
The position may require standing for extended periods, handling sheet-metal components and materials, performing machine setup activities and moving materials using appropriate lifting or material-handling equipment.
